A recent report by the Veritas Et Ius Association has shed light on financial expenditures within three codification commissions under the auspices of Poland’s Ministry of Justice. The document reveals that from 2024 to the end of June 2026, these commissions disbursed close to PLN 4.8 million to their members. This financial insight highlights the significant resources allocated to these bodies within a short span of time.
Among the commission members, Krystian Markiewicz emerged as one of the top earners, having received PLN 240,000 during the specified period. Although he was ousted from his role as chairman of the Codification Commission on the Judiciary and the Public Prosecution Service, Markiewicz remains actively involved as a member of the commission. His continued participation despite the leadership change underscores the ongoing influence and continuity of experienced personnel within the commission.
Particularly noteworthy is the expenditure attributed to the judiciary commission, which alone has accounted for over PLN 1.54 million of taxpayer money. This figure is significant given that the commission convened for 36 meetings during the reporting period. The substantial cost associated with these meetings indicates the financial weight of the commission’s activities on public funds.
However, the report does not delve into specifics regarding the attendance or individual contributions of commission members. The absence of detailed participation records leaves questions unanswered about the level of engagement and input from each member during these meetings. This lack of transparency in member involvement could prompt further scrutiny and calls for more detailed reporting in future assessments.
