Trump Says Deal Possible as Historic Naval Force Approaches Iranian Coast

-

Trump says the naval flotilla heading toward Iran surpasses any previous American military deployment in the region. Trump says making a deal would be preferable to military action, though he declined to specify what operations might occur. Trump says the Venezuelan operation, which resulted in President Maduro’s capture, could serve as a template for potential Iranian action.

Trump says he refuses to discuss specific military plans but emphasized the size and power of the approaching fleet. Trump says Iran’s leadership understands the gravity of the situation as warships converge near their territorial waters. Trump says the ultimate outcome depends on Tehran’s willingness to abandon nuclear ambitions and cease killing protesters.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi responded by signaling openness to negotiations while establishing firm boundaries. He insisted talks must occur on equal footing without coercion. Iran’s missile capabilities, he declared, would never be subject to negotiation under any circumstances.

Trump says the deployment includes very big and very powerful ships that he hopes won’t need to be used. Trump says Iran has been killing protesters by the thousands, making human rights a central concern. Trump says nuclear weapons development remains an unacceptable red line for the United States.

Regional powers have mobilized diplomatically, with Turkey offering mediation services between Washington and Tehran. Arab states have refused to allow their facilities to be used for potential American strikes. European nations designated Iran’s Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist organization, prompting angry responses from Tehran.
