Breaking: US Launches Military Operation Against ISIS in Northwest Nigeria

-

In a dramatic Christmas Day announcement, President Donald Trump revealed that American forces had conducted strikes against ISIS militants operating in northwest Nigeria. The operation targeted terrorist groups that have been systematically attacking Christian communities in the predominantly Muslim northern region of the country.

The military action followed months of warnings from the Trump administration regarding what it described as an “existential threat” and potential “genocide” against Nigerian Christians. Trump had previously issued stern warnings in October and November, threatening military intervention if the violence against Christian populations continued unabated. These warnings have now materialized into concrete military action.

Trump’s statement emphasized the precision and effectiveness of the American strikes, noting that only the United States possesses the capability to execute such operations. The president framed the action within his broader commitment to combating radical Islamic terrorism globally, stating unequivocally that such extremism would not be tolerated under his watch.

The Nigerian government responded to the strikes by confirming its security cooperation with the United States. The Foreign Ministry released a statement explaining that the operation was part of an established partnership involving intelligence sharing and strategic planning to address terrorism and violent extremism. Nigerian officials stressed that their nation opposes terrorist violence targeting any religious community.

Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth took to social media to acknowledge Nigeria’s cooperation and to reinforce the administration’s message. He referenced Trump’s earlier warnings about ending the killing of innocent Christians, suggesting that additional operations may follow. The Pentagon provided evidence of the strikes through released video footage, while Nigerian President Bola Ahmed has maintained that his country’s constitution protects all citizens regardless of faith and that Nigeria remains committed to religious tolerance.
