Humanitarian Crisis at Forefront of US-Brokered Gaza Deal

-

A plan to end the catastrophic humanitarian crisis in Gaza is a cornerstone of the 20-point peace proposal presented by US President Donald Trump. The deal, which comes with a stern 3-4 day ultimatum for Hamas, promises immediate and full aid to a Palestinian population that has been subjected to starvation and famine.

The conflict, which started in October 2023, has resulted in the deaths of over 66,000 people and has left the Gaza Strip in ruins. The US plan seeks to address this suffering directly by mandating the immediate cessation of hostilities and guaranteeing the flow of food, water, and medical supplies into the territory.

This humanitarian relief is contingent on Hamas accepting the plan’s stringent political and military conditions. The group must agree to release all remaining hostages, completely disarm, and relinquish all governing authority in Gaza. In return, Israeli forces would withdraw, and hundreds of Palestinian prisoners would be released.

President Trump has emphasized the broad international support for his proposal, stating that Israel and all Arab and Muslim nations are on board. This unified front is designed to pressure Hamas into accepting the terms, with Trump warning of a “very sad end” if they refuse.

As Hamas considers the life-or-death proposal, the plight of Gaza’s civilians is a central factor. The promise of an end to their suffering provides a powerful incentive for a deal, but it comes at the cost of Hamas’s surrender.
