EU Launches New Entry/Exit System at Budapest Airport for Non-EU Travelers

-

The European Union has rolled out its new Entry/Exit System (EES) at Budapest’s Liszt Ferenc International Airport, introducing a modernized border registration process for non-EU citizens traveling for short stays. The system, implemented gradually from November 18, 2025, aims to strengthen security across the Schengen area and improve the accuracy of border checks.

Under the EES, non-EU passport holders entering or leaving any of the 29 participating European countries will be digitally registered each time they cross an external border. This applies to travelers staying up to 90 days within any 180-day period. While the new system is designed to enhance security, passengers may experience slightly longer processing times during the initial phase of implementation.

Budapest Airport has coordinated closely with authorities to ensure a smooth transition. Additional staff have been deployed, and official EU information materials, including airport-specific FAQs, are now available on the airport’s website to assist passengers.

Importantly, the new procedures do not affect travelers holding EU passports, for whom the border-crossing process remains unchanged.
