India is intensifying its diplomatic efforts to play a more significant role in resolving the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, according to India’s External Affairs Minister, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. This move marks a shift from India’s previous stance of merely advocating for negotiations to actively engaging with both Moscow and Kyiv.
Jaishankar emphasized that India believes in resolving the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy. He noted that New Delhi is not only holding discussions with the Ukrainian side but also maintaining its traditionally close ties with Russia. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in New Delhi, signaling ongoing communication between the two nations.
In addition to facilitating dialogue, India is exploring ways to support initiatives related to the safety of shipping in the Black Sea, as well as the export of grain and energy. These efforts aim to prevent further escalation and attacks, which have been a concern amidst the conflict.
Jaishankar has engaged in direct talks with Ukrainian officials, further underscoring India’s commitment to contributing to peace efforts. Meanwhile, efforts to restart negotiations between Russia and Ukraine continue, with Kyiv considering the possibility of another round of talks.
These developments highlight India’s growing involvement in international diplomatic circles regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict, as it seeks to leverage its relationships with both sides to facilitate a peaceful resolution.
