Polish Crypto Innovation Stalled as Sejm Upholds Presidential Veto

-

In a significant political development, Poland’s Sejm has once again failed to override President Karol Nawrocki’s veto of a bill aimed at regulating the nation’s crypto asset market. This marks the third time the legislative body has been unable to push through the proposed regulations, highlighting ongoing challenges in reaching a consensus on this critical economic issue.

During the voting session on Friday, out of 442 Members of Parliament (MPs) present, 241 voted in favor of rejecting the presidential veto. However, 198 MPs voted against this action, with three members abstaining. To successfully override the president’s veto, a three-fifths majority was necessary, a threshold that was not achieved in this latest attempt.

President Nawrocki has been consistent in his opposition to the current form of the crypto regulation bill, having issued previous vetoes in December 2025 and February 2026. He has expressed concerns that the bill does not adequately address issues raised by his office. Nawrocki has indicated his openness to approving the legislation, provided that significant amendments are made to resolve these concerns.

With the recent vote failing to overturn the president’s decision, the path forward for the proposed crypto regulations remains uncertain. The president’s willingness to sign a revised bill suggests that further negotiations and amendments may be needed to reach a version that satisfies all stakeholders. Until such changes are made, the legislative efforts to regulate Poland’s crypto market remain at an impasse.
