Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed gratitude to the United States for restoring Starlink and Starshield satellite internet services, while also emphasizing the urgent need for air defence missiles to counter ongoing threats from Russian missile attacks. In a recent video address, Zelensky highlighted the critical importance of these military supplies, particularly ammunition for the Patriot systems, in safeguarding Ukrainian cities and infrastructure.
The restoration of satellite internet services to their previous speeds is seen as a significant boost for Ukraine’s frontline logistics and ability to defend against Russian drone attacks. Zelensky thanked US lawmakers, officials, media, and the administration for their efforts in resolving the issue, underscoring the role these services play in the nation’s defense strategy.
Amidst these developments, Zelensky also pointed to the dire humanitarian situation in Oleshky, a town under Russian control in Ukraine’s Kherson region. He expressed optimism about a potential humanitarian operation following US-mediated efforts to establish a local ceasefire. The proposed operation aims to deliver essential food and medical supplies to civilians and create a safe corridor for people wishing to leave the conflict zone.
The situation in Oleshky remains challenging due to mined roads, which complicate efforts to deliver aid and evacuate civilians. Zelensky noted that Ukraine is ready to cooperate in mine-clearing initiatives and hopes that US mediation will facilitate the humanitarian mission’s success.
